'Let's Make an Altered Book crafting classes' April 9 & 16 in "The Keeping Room"

‘Let’s Make an Altered Book crafting classes’
N2God Store’s “The Keeping Room”
April 9th and 16th 2011 (2 consecutive Saturdays)
813 W. Second ~ Wichita
Time 2 - 4 pm

To sign up please e-mail stwant2be@aol.com before April 6, 2011.

My somewhat short ‘How to Make an Altered Book crafting class’ presentation will begin at 2. You won’t want to miss the ideas I will be sharing so please don’t be late. You may be as fascinated as I am about this art expression. In a ‘nut shell’ your altered book will be a ‘One of a kind’ memory book authored by you. Truly a priceless family keepsake!

What to bring April 9th ~ One medium sized hard back book in good shape (with a title that speaks to you’re the artist side of your brain) and theme idea for your book. At this first class I will help you make a layout getting your book pages ready for altering/crafting at 2nd class April 16. Your assignment now (before the class) is to hunt through your home library or go ‘thrifting’ for a book with a title you really like and the theme for altered book.

(My first altered book is called ‘Patty goes to Roma’ created from a cook booked called ‘Small bites of Italy’. This was the just right title for my 1st altered memory book about my once of a lifetime trip to Rome ‘thus far’ that was only 2 ½ days). It is SO neat. In my photo are a few books for future altering/crafting.

What to bring April 16th ~ that sack/pile of Photos that you’ve been planning to put in memory book, tiny trinkets, receipt plane tickets, small pieces of favorite fabrics, ribbon and lace, small game pieces, journal notes, cards and/or art, special tiny mementos or old pieces of vintage jewelry that relate/go with the ‘Memory altered book ‘you will be crafting. I'm sure you have unique items I didn't mention...great!

Have a girl’s get-a-way…invite a friend! Of course this class is open to guys also. Parking is available in front of store on 2nd Street. Please e-mail me if you have any questions. I’m here and will be there to help. Space is limited…sign up early if you can. Maybe your book can be an Easter gift to yourself or someone very special. We’re going to have fun! Tasty snacks and drinks will be ready for you to enjoy in our little Tea Room and the N2God store is open both Saturdays. You’ll want to browse and check out new/old items offered for sale.

Cost is $10 (for the 2 Saturday classes April 9 & 16) total of 4 creative fun hours ~ in your own work place. Please pay at arrival April 9th. Thank you in advance!

Blessed,

"The Keeping Room" filled with bunches of fun all Saturday afternoon!

Angel food cup cakes, chex mix, hot coco and teas ready for the artists
The Scrapbook/Card  Workshop 101 was so much fun however...I can't refer to it as a workshop because all of the ladies knew what they were doing...and GOOD at it too! I learned watching them and liked watching them help one another. One of the things I learned is that the colors red and turquoise look good together! We enjoyed some of my friend's 'Sally sings' CDs and one another's company the whole afternoon. An extra blessing for me was a surprise visit and from a friend who came into the store who I haven't seen for ages.

One of my friends brought her young son and it was a 'hoot' watching the two of them scrap book a Halloween Memory page which turned out Spooktactular! I did get some words and phrases for some of the different topics for cards & memory pages and unfortunately they were buried under other art I prepared. Oh well...I guess I'll be set for the next year's 'St. Valentine's Day'.

The day was blessed with sunshine and I didn't hear one complaint about the huge piles of snow on the street in front of the store. Everyone said 'We just walked around it'.

The very best part of my day was visiting with friends and hearing all about their memories and these ladies had some amazing creating ideas. To mention a few...Becky using golden threads for the wheat she remembered as a child growing up in the country. Pamela...a bag of maps....memories...and that great big cute Mickey Mouse plastic rain coat she saved from Walt Disney World I believe. So interesting!

My heart felt thanks to all who came. May the love you put into your cards and memory pages...come back to you on St. Valentine's day.

(Hope to include some neat pictures soon)

Inspiration from -Leo Buscaglia

"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring...all of which have the potential to turn a life around."

-Leo Buscaglia

Saturday, January 22nd was the 2nd day the N2God Store was open. Two of our favorite friends stopped by and delighted us with their company for a long visit. I'm sitting here smiling (a little bit nervously...just a bit...) because they were the only ones who stopped in all day. I know you must be thinking "WHAT?" Unfortunately good advertising is too expensive right now and being physically tired didn't help anything as friends asked me during last week about our new venture. Oh rest assure, I am excited...I was just way too tired to 'talk it up'. Our store is open 'Most Saturdays' and in January only two. OK...I'll stop with the excuses...I need to work harder! The real reason of this post is to share that when I came across Leo's words this morning...I was instantly reminded of our two favorite friends who came by that store and my heart is grateful for them.

More reasons why...
During our visit my friend inspired me to pursue some ideas I'm considering and she even shared her own idea to help me...that is the power of caring! When I read L.B.'s inspiration early this morning, I reminded God "Lord, this is what I wanted to do on Saturday with a stranger you bring us." He (the Lord) reminded me that this is exactly what He did for me on Saturday. I guess you could even say "He showed and told". I love when He does that! It was one of His surprises for me after 8am Mass.  Fr. Kline's Homily was wonderful! Father talked about the dignity of human beings and prayed for full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life. God works in the most beautiful ways and people too!

Let us all remember that the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring...all have the potential to turn a life around! Yes, could even save some one's life. May God bless Leo Buscaglia for the gift of his inspiring words.
Blessed,
Patty

Happy New Year! We are open!

A full fun day for all!
New Year's Day a wonderful day full of surprises and fun for all. Unfortunately I only took a few pictures, not because we were real busy but more because I was visiting with people and a little tired. I promise to post more pictures of the store soon. The shelf of Vintage hats is so pretty in the little tea room I created. My husband insisted that the old kitchen table and chairs stay at the farm house until after Christmas. Many nicks and crannies to continue to decorate and fill. I've really appreciated friends suggestions making everything come together better.

A few notable happenings, the first a little miracle in God's store. Friday as I was shaking the last rug, sweeping and emptying trash bags, I noticed something scratchy on my ring finger. When I looked down I about came unglued...my diamond was missing! To make a long story short (you don't want to hear about the crying...) I asked for the intercession of St. Anthony 'Patron Saint of lost items' to help me. His help came quickly...five minutes later I found...let me rephrase that ' I FOUND MY DIAMOND!!!' on the carpet by the back door where I was cleaning. I'm so thrilled...off to the jewelry store this week for a repair. I've worn my ring for 37+ years...it's not surprising it would need an update...it's been w/o a check up or professional cleaning for 15, 20, 25, OK...30 years.

Some of the fun at our opening was tossing a bunch of pennies all over the sidewalk and grass outside the front door of the store, 3 pennies with happy faces were hid though out the store with more pennies from Heaven. If you found one with a happy face...you won a chocolate candy bar and a 2011 calendar about chocolate. I didn't get to it, I was going to write a note and tie on the candy bar 'Money talks but chocolate sings'. :-) Making Christmas card boxes with some little ones was fun. If you do this...a little cutting board is your best friend! Visiting with family and friends in the little tea room, drinking frosty eggnog, tea, coffee and having refreshments was delightful (one of my friends brought all sorts of goodies)! I was able to gift my friend with the 'Saint Therese' big framed puzzle right off the wall by my desk. It has been waiting for her. Very unique.. and you guessed it...her favorite Saint.

God really blessed us with a great day and we sure appreciate all of our friends and family who braved the fidget cold weather to come! Our guest book & glass purse with names inside for a prize drawing looks pretty full. Please come see us. I will post the Saturday dates we'll be open soon.

Today, January 3rd celebrates 'The Most Holy Name of Jesus'. I'll take this opportunity to share that there is power in the name of Jesus with a prayer as simple as 'Please help me Jesus'. He wants us to call on Him when we need help.
